The Most Fuel-Efficient MINI Cars

Pretty much every knows that MINI cars are fun to drive, but not everybody knows that these little vehicles also get very good gas mileage. Here we take a look at the MPG of four new models.

MINI Cooper

The MINI Cooper comes with a base 134-horsepower turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine. There are also two turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines, one that puts out 189 horsepower and another that produces 228 horsepower.

A six-speed manual transmission is standard, but a seven- or eight-speed automatic is available. To get the best fuel economy, you’ll want the 1.5-liter engine and seven-speed automatic transmission, as this offers 27 MPG in the city and 37 MPG on the highway.

MINI Cooper Clubman

You’ll get a 189-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with the MINI Cooper Clubman. The other powertrain option is a 301-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, but you can get a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic when you opt for front-wheel drive or an eight-speed automatic with all-wheel drive.

The base engine with the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive is the most fuel-efficient model. It will give you 25 MPG in the city and 35 MPG on the highway.

MINI Cooper Countryman

The MINI Cooper Countryman comes with a 134-horsepower turbocharged 1.5-liter, three-cylinder engine. There are several other powertrains available, including a hybrid setup that consists of a turbocharged 1.5-liter, three-cylinder engine and an electric motor that combine to generate 221 horsepower.

A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is standard, and an eight-speed automatic is available. The hybrid gets a six-speed automatic. The base MINI Cooper Countryman gets 26 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway. The hybrid offers 73 MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent).

MINI Electric Hardtop

When it comes to fuel efficiency, you can’t beat an electric model. The MINI Electric Hardtop has a 135-kW electric motor that produces 181 horsepower. A one-speed transmission is standard, as is front-wheel drive.

It offers 119 MPGe in the city and 100 MPGe on the highway, which are outstanding numbers. The MINI Electric Hardtop also has a driving range of up to 110 miles, and a 240-volt outlet will get it fully charged in about eight hours.
