MINI parts

There’s no denying MINI parts are built to last. Did you know your transmission can last upwards of 300,000 miles? That is, if you care for it properly. Our trained technicians at MINI of Wesley Chapel have a few tips to help.

Routinely Check Your Transmission Fluid

Your transmission fluid is more important than you may realize. It keeps your transmission parts lubricated, which helps keep it cool and running smoothly. Plus, it keeps build-up from forming. It’s important to inspect it, at least monthly, to make sure that it’s at an adequate level. Pull out the dipstick to check its level and make sure it doesn’t have an unusual odor. Plus, it should be a clearish-red hue. If not, it’s time to replace it.

Schedule Transmission Service Regularly

Typically, we recommend transmission service every 30,000 miles or every two years. By keeping up with a routine schedule you can seriously increase your transmission’s lifespan. During these appointments, we’ll drain your transmission fluid. Over time, your fluid will begin to lose its efficiency, so it’s not just important you keep it full, you also need to routinely change it completely. The pan will also be cleaned, and we’ll replace your filter.

Drive with Caution

Driving carefully can also help protect your transmission. Your transmission fluid thickens up when it’s cold, so it won’t work as efficiently after a cold start. Plus, your transmission itself needs time to warm up too. If you don’t give it the time it needs, you can easily cause undue wear. It’s also a good idea to use your emergency brake when you are parked on an incline.
